In 2024, I started the tradition of sharing my NBA Playoff bracket as part of the NBA Playoff Best Ball process. There is a lot more to the Playoff Best Ball process than simply picking the guys from the teams who advance, but if you can hit on your bracket, or at least most of it, you’re in awfully good shape.

My 2024 bracket was near perfect. We hit on the Mavs run to the Finals against the Celtics, and the Knicks and Pacers in the East, which were huge for drafts that year. Last year was a little more of a mixed bag. I had the Celtics in the Finals against the Thunder, which was a colossal whiff, and I liked the Clippers a little too much in the first round against the Nuggets. But the huge stand on the Pacers “upsetting” the Bucks in the first round paid off in a big way, as they made a crazy run to the finals and were the lynchpins of Playoff Best Ball drafts in 2025. Sometimes you can get lucky and get bailed out!

This 2026 bracket feels far tougher than in recent seasons. I could see any number of teams making the finals in each conference, and there are some vulnerable favorites in critical series for our Playoff Best Ball purposes. There do appear to be a tier at the top of each conference that stands above the rest, particularly with the Thunder, Spurs and Nuggets in the West, and the Celtics and Pistons in the East. But even then, we know teams like Minnesota, New York, and Cleveland (just to name a few) are dangerous and experienced in the playoffs.

Nonetheless, it’s time to pick a bracket since we have reached the end of the regular season. I will update if there are any notable changes from the play-in games this week, but I don’t suspect that should change anything here.
